Servant Leadership

Throughout the University of Mary DNP, FNP program I have embraced the principles of servant leadership which has shaped me as a leader. Servant leadership is centered on the idea of leading by serving others, which has improved my approach to patient care and inter-professional collaboration. By prioritizing the needs of patients, peers, and the community, I have learned to lead with empathy. My experiences with the University of Mary has strengthened my ability to build trust and advocate for my patients. Embracing servant leadership has allowed me to lay a strong foundation for my future as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Benedictine Experience

Community

The Benedictine value of community has played a vital role shaping my journey to be a Family Nurse Practitioner. This value reminded me that healthcare is not an individual effort but rather a collaborative one. Whether it be working with other faculty, peers, patients, or others in the interdisciplinary team, I learned the importance of open communication and shared responsibility. This value has allowed me to strengthen my leadership skills and deepen my commitment to holistic care.

Respect for Persons

The Benedictine value of respect for persons has been fundamental to my development as a provider and leader. This value has shaped the way I approach patient care as it is centered on honoring dignity of humans. I have learned the art of active listening, valuing diverse perspectives, and providing culturally competent care. Respecting others has allowed me to build trust with patients, foster meaningful connections, and advocate for appropriate care. This principle will continue to guide me in my practice as it will ensure each interaction reflects compassion and respect for those I am caring for.
