Graduate Competencies

Communication
Communication has been a very important competency throughout the program. I have had to communicate heavily with my classmates on multiple assignments throughout the course of the program. The below document is one example of how I used communication in the program. The purpose of the assignment was to work through a case study from start to finish with an assigned classmate. I had to communicate frequently with this classmate throughout the duration of the semester as we had several of these case studies. This is a very important competency to learn as I will need to communicate effectively with patients as well as with my coworkers and peers.

Moral Courage
I have used moral courage several times throughout my career as a nurse but also while in the DNP program. I have had to advocate for patients when I know they need a higher level of care than what the facility I was at could care for. One assignment that exemplified moral courage is EBP project attached below. This EBP project addressed diagnostic challenges in rural healthcare through the implementation of pain-of-care ultrasound. By confronting this healthcare disparity, I demonstrated moral courage as I advocated for access to diagnostic tools. This experience encouraged me to speak up for patients while using evidence-based information to support my argument.

Professional Distinction
Professional distinction includes integrating knowledge and skills in the applicable discipline for professional service while pursuing the common good. While there were several examples of this throughout the program the special topics presentation below is one that is a clear demonstration of advanced clinical knowledge, evidence-based practice, and critical decision making. By addressing red flags, creating a differential diagnosis list, identifying diagnostics, and creating an emergent plan I have identified a high level of competence in handling complex and time-sensitive medical issues.

Scholarship
Scholarship is a competency that is evidenced throughout the program. Several assignments require research and evidence based knowledge to develop appropriate knowledge to be a competent provider. One great example of scholarship is the DNP final paper attached below. This paper demonstrates the processes that went into place when creating our evidence based project. The knowledge gained from this project will continue as I grow as a provider. This paper is just one example of the assignments that helped develop my professional philosophy that is grounded in scholarship.
